Jones/NCTI Final Exams Online Reference Guide
Welcome to the convenient and easy world of final exams online. As of October 1, 2003, Jones/NCTI final exams will take place online. While the process for taking an online final has some similarities to the paper-based approach it has some distinct differences that will improve the final exam experience. This document provides the following:
- An outline of the process for taking final exams online
- Frequently asked questions about taking final exams online
- Printable copy of this Reference Guide (PDF)
- Go to Final Exams Online
- While delivery, submission, and notification methods have changed, the final exam itself has not changed. The question selection process and course final exam requirements are the same.
-
System Requirements:
- Required: Internet access and a Web browser
- Preferred: Internet Explorer, Version 4.0 and a connection of 30K or better
- Once a student completes his course lessons, an e-mail will be sent to the student's Training Coordinator. The e-mail will contain information and instructions along with an exam Access Code. If the student has given a valid e-mail to Jones/NCTI, the student will be notified by e-mail that the final exam is ready to be taken; however the notification will not contain the exam Access Code.
- The student can access the final exam at any computer with a Web browser connected to the Internet. To begin the exam, the student enters his Jones/NCTI Online username and password, and then the Training Coordinator enters the Access Code. The final exam will begin only if the correct username, password, and Access Code are entered.
- The student completes the exam by selecting the correct answer to each multiple-choice question one at a time. Upon answering all of the questions on the exam, the exam is graded, and the student immediately receives his grade for the exam. The results are also recorded in Jones/NCTI's student records system.
- The final exam must be completed before the course expires to avoid additional costs.
1. What if the Training Coordinator
doesn't have an e-mail address?
If Jones/NCTI does not have an e-mail address for the Training Coordinator, a letter containing the final exam instructions and exam Access Code will be mailed to them. For Jones/NCTI to better serve the student and Training Coordinator it is important that the Training Coordinator provide a valid e-mail address.
2. What happens if the Training
Coordinator loses the Exam Access Code?
The Training Coordinator must contact Jones/NCTI's client services group during normal business hours to obtain the Access Code. Client services can be reached by phone at (303) 797-9393.
3. Does Jones/NCTI inform the student
when a final exam is available?
The student will be informed that
a final exam is available ONLY if Jones/NCTI has a valid e-mail address for
the student.
4. What if the student doesn't
have an e-mail address?
If Jones/NCTI does not have an e-mail address for the student, the student will not receive e-mail notification indicating that the final exam is available. In this situation, it will be up to the Training Coordinator to inform the student of the availability of the final exam. The Training Coordinator will be informed of the final exam availability via e-mail or regular mail (as indicated in FAQ #1).
5. Can the student request a paper
final exam?
The student may not request a paper
final exam; however, in situations were there is no adequate computer
or Internet connection, the Training Coordinator may contact client services
and request a paper final exam.
6. Does the final have an expiration
date?
Yes. The final exam must be completed before the course expires to avoid additional costs.
7. How are exam questions generated?
The final exam question selection
process does not change. No two final exams are the same. Final exam questions
are randomly pulled from a bank of questions that relate to the entire
course. They are not necessarily made up solely of questions from the
lesson exams. This, of course, means that the questions on the final exam
may be different from questions the student has seen in the past.
8. How many questions are on the
final exam?
The number of questions on the final exam is determined by the course. Currently we have courses with 25- and 50-question final exams.
9. Can a student skip a question
and come back to it?
Yes, questions may be answered in any order. However, all questions must be answered in order to submit the final exam for grading.
10. Can answers in the exam be
changed?
Final exam answers may be changed
at any time before the exam is scored. If the exam has been scored, the
answer will stand as submitted.
11. Can a final exam be printed?
No, the final exam questions cannot
be printed; however, the exam questions remain available online for future
reference. The final exam answer sheet can be printed.
12. Will the student be able to
see correct answers for any questions missed?
Yes, once the exam has been scored,
the student will be presented a page indicating which questions were marked
wrong along with the correct answers.
13. How soon after submitting the
final will the student know their grade?
Exams taken online are scored immediately
upon submission. The student's score will be displayed on the screen within
seconds after the exam is completed.
14. What happens if a final exam
is failed?
The current final exam policy for Jones/NCTI does not change. A student has two chances to pass the final exam.
15. Will a second final exam automatically
be generated if a student fails the first final exam?
Yes, a new Exam Access Code is generated
and delivered to the Training Coordinator. A new and unique final exam
is also generated for the student.
16. What happens if the student
has Internet connectivity or computer problems while taking the final?
Internet connectivity or computer
problems do not impact a final exam score. Jones/NCTI's online exam process
stores the student's answers as they are submitted. Once the problems
are resolved, the student can resume the exam where it left off as long
as the exam is resumed before the expiration date.
17. Does an exam have a time limit
once it has been started?
The only time limit regarding an exam is that it be completed before the course expiration date. Once an exam is started, the time for completion is at the discretion of the Training Coordinator. The Training Coordinator should determine and allow a reasonable time for completion.
18. How does a student resume a
final exam taken online if it cannot be completed in one sitting?
If a final exam taken online requires
more than one sitting to complete, the exam may be resumed any time before
the exam expiration date. To resume taking a final exam online, the student
must re-enter his Jones/NCTI online username and password and the Training Coordinator
must re-enter the Exam Access Code.
