Jones/NCTI Self-Study Method
In what format are Jones/NCTI courses taught?
Jones/NCTI courses are delivered to students in a distance-learning format with clear instructions on how to begin the course, complete assignments and tests, and how to take the final exam. Each course includes all the necessary components for successful completion. There are three types of courses: paper-based, online and Web Classroom.
Paper-based courses: These courses consist of paper-based lessons which must be completed by the student. Typically, there are no structured classroom sessions, and the student studies materials and takes exams at his/her own pace. Each course has an expiration date, by which time the student must complete and submit all lesson exams and pass a final exam. The lesson exams are open book format. The final exam, which is taken online, is closed book format and proctored by a company designated Training Coordinator. Students study each lesson and take and submit a lesson exam prior to moving on to the next lesson. Lesson exams can be submitted by mail, fax, or via our Web site. Lesson exam results can be obtained via our Web site. If you utilize the Web site to receive feedback on your exams, you must have a username and password to access this system. If you have forgotten your username and password or need to have one assigned to you, contact Customer Care directly at (303) 797-9393, or by email at customercare@jonesncti.com. Weekly student reports are generated and forwarded to each student's Training Coordinator. These reports help keep the Training Coordinator up to date on each student's progress.
Online courses: These courses consist of online learning modules which must be completed by the student. Similar to paper-based courses, there are no structured classroom sessions, and the student studies and takes exams at his/her own pace. Each course has an expiration date, by which time the student must complete and submit all module exams and pass a final exam. Students study each module online and take and submit a module exam prior to moving on to the next module. The module exams and final exam are taken online and results will be obtained immediately. The final exam is proctored by a company designated Training Coordinator. Jones/NCTI will provide students a username and password to access this system.
Web Classroom: These courses combine online learning with a classroom setting. Via the Internet, students interact with their instructor and classmates, attend lectures, take tests, receive feedback, participate in discussions and may even work on team projects with fellow students. Students study materials and take tutorials at their own pace. Each course has an expiration date, by which time the student must complete and submit all tutorial exercises and assignments. Many of Web Classroom courses contain a textbook that can serve as an ongoing reference tool for the student. Tutorials and assignments will be submitted online to the instructor. Jones/NCTI will provide students a username and password to access this system.
How long does it take to complete a course?
Each course has a different completion time.
Paper-based courses: Most of these courses expire within 6 to 12 months of enrollment. During this period students must complete all lesson exams and final exam. Jones/NCTI recommends completing at least one lesson a week in order to finish the course prior to its expiration.
Online courses: Most of these courses expire within 6 months of enrollment. During this period students need to complete all lesson exams and final exam. Jones/NCTI recommends completing at least one lesson a week in order to finish the course prior to its expiration.
Web Classroom courses: These courses expire within 3 to 4 months of enrollment. During this period students most complete all tutorials and assignments.
Enrollment and Payment
How does a student enroll in a course?
To enroll in a course, simply complete an Enrollment Application form and mail it to Jones/NCTI with full payment. For further information, please visit our "How to Enroll" section of the web site.
How can a student pay for the course?
NCTI accepts different forms of payment: Company checks, personal checks, credit cards, and money orders are welcome.
How many courses should a student take?
A student can enroll in as many courses as he/she feels comfortable with. Keep in mind, however, that courses vary in length and difficulty. If you have questions about whether you should enroll in multiple courses, please contact our Customer Care office at (303) 797-9393, or by email at customercare@jonesncti.com.
Can a student enroll at any level within a Career Path?
A student may enroll at any level within a Career Path if he/she possesses adequate prior knowledge. However, since Jones/NCTI's courses are comprehensive and build upon one another, it is strongly recommended that students enroll in the first course of the Career Path they choose.
A first-time student requesting to enroll in a more advanced Career Path course will be screened for adequate academic and experiential knowledge. Information learned in the beginning of the first course is referred to in subsequent courses within a Career Path. A student may be at a disadvantage if he/she has not studied this prerequisite material.
How soon are the courses shipped?
Paper-based: All paper-based courses are shipped within 24 to 48 hours of receipt of a completed Enrollment Application and required payment. Courses are shipped FedEx ground and should arrive within five to eight working days of the shipment date.
Online: All online courses will be active within 24 hours of receipt of a completed Enrollment Application and required payment. If a student enrolls in an "Online with Textbook Included" course, the online course will be active within 24 hours of receipt of a completed Enrollment Application and required payment; and the textbook will be shipped within 24 to 48 hours by FedEx ground. The textbook should arrive within five to eight working days of the shipment date.
Web Classroom: These courses will start the first Monday of each month. Students should enroll at least 7 days before the start date of the class, so that they have enough time to get the course materials. Customer Care will call or email the students and Training Coordinators to inform them of the start date of the course and to give them the necessary information to begin their course.
Course Extentions, Transfers, Final Exam Grace Period and Return Policy
What is a course extension, and what does it cost?
When a course is nearing expiration and cannot be completed in time, a course extension is an option. While the course is still active, a 90-day extension from the original expiration date may be granted upon receipt by Jones/NCTI of a written request from your Training Coordinator and payment of a $65.00 fee. There is a limit of two 90-day extensions at $65.00 for each period. After that date, the course material is no longer serviceable.
There are no extensions for Web Classroom courses. The only exception to this policy is if the student follows the appropriate steps for the Student Appeals Committee at Arapahoe Community College. The instructor and/or the Committee will make the decision on extension of time for the student, NOT Jones/NCTI or any of its employees.
What is a course transfer, and how does a student transfer a course?
To protect our corporate partners' investment, Jones/NCTI allows the transfer of active courses to another employee who has the same technical qualifications as the original student. To transfer a course, the Training Coordinator must send the following to Jones/NCTI:
  • Completed Enrollment Application for the person to whom the course is being transferred
  • Original course material
  • Transfer Fee
The original course materials must be returned to Jones/NCTI unless otherwise authorized. Returning the course materials to Jones/NCTI ensures that the new student receives a complete and up-to-date version of the course. Once Jones/NCTI receives the original course materials, a completely new course will be shipped out for the new student.
If the original course materials are not retrieved when the employee/student leaves, a replacement course manual may be ordered at 50% of current tuition. Be sure to include the appropriate Transfer Fee when transferring a replacement course.
For the cost of transferring a course, please contact Customer Care at (303) 797-9393, or by email at customercare@jonesncti.com.
What is a final exam grace period?
A final exam grace period is a no-cost two week grace period at the end of a course if the student needs a little extra time to coordinate schedules for a proctor and take the first attempt at the final exam. A student can be given a two week Final Exam Grace Period if:
All lessons have been successfully completed within the established course expiration date. This means that all lessons must be submitted to Jones/NCTI for grading and all lessons have been passed with a satisfactory score prior to the course expiration date. If there are any outstanding or failed lessons in the student record after the course expiration date, the student is not eligible for a final exam grace period. Students not qualifying for a final exam grace period should consider a course extension.
Only one final exam grace period will be allowed per student, per course for use on the first attempt at a final exam. If the student fails the first exam, the student must apply for a course extension. It is believed that if the student fails a final exam, they need sufficient time to study and review the course before attempting a second final exam. No final exam grace period will be allowed for a second attempt at a final.
If there are extenuating circumstances, please submit a request to the Student Appeals Committee to make an exception to this policy.
There is no final exam grace period for Web Classroom courses. The only exception to this policy is if the student follows the appropriate steps for the Student Appeals Committee at Arapahoe Community College. The instructor and/or the Committee will make the decision on extension of time for the student, NOT Jones/NCTI or any of its employees.
What is Jones/NCTI’s Return Policy?
Application:
This return policy applies to any Jones/NCTI course or associated course material involving assessments and course expiration dates. This refund policy does not apply to associated course material independent of courses, or to Web Classroom courses and associated materials.

Policy:
Any unused Jones/NCTI course and associated course material in resalable condition (determined by Jones/NCTI) may be returned, at customer expense, to Jones/NCTI within 30 days of original enrollment/sale date for a refund. A $75.00 restocking/handling fee will be charged All course materials originally shipped with the course must be returned, including VHS tapes and CD-ROMs.

If the returned course and course material is not in resalable condition or in the case of a course textbook is returned past the 30 day period; a 50% fee will be deducted from the refunded amount. Jones/NCTI may or may not accept returns past the 30-day period at its discretion. No courses or associated materials will be accepted for return more than one year from the original shipping date.

No refunds will be issued for course material or courses that have been used (defined as any assessments submitted for grading), completed or expired courses and associated course materials.

What is "course completion"?
NCTI Policies define "course completion" as successful completion of all lesson exams and completion of the final exam. The course length assumes that a course would be completed in the time frame set for that course. For example, if a course has a 6 month time frame for completion, this is expected to be adequate time to successfully complete all lesson exams and the final exam.
